Class of 2026 Students and Families,

          Welcome to your senior year! I’m excited to be your College and Career Center Facilitator—I am here to help you explore your interests, discover your strengths, and take steps toward your future goals. Whether you’re heading for college, a trade program, the military, or entering the workforce, this year is your time to plan and prepare.

Throughout the year, you’ll have opportunities to:

• Attend events with UNR and TMCC
• Explore college programs, apply for scholarships and discover financial aid options
• Connect with professionals, colleges, and CTE programs
• Build skills such as resume building that will prepare you for life after high school

Remember—there’s no single “right” path after High School. Your journey is unique, and my role is to help you find the one that’s right for you.

Some important items

• Events: I host many events and informational sessions throughout the year, give presentations in classes, and hold workshops
• Weekly emails: I try to keep my weekly emails short and to the point so you can read them in a couple of minutes. Please read them!
• Monthly Newsletters: have deadlines, important updates, and have links and reminders for you to easily find information
• Class Presentations: This month I will be coming into Gov’t/Econ classes to give a short presentation and answer questions. During this time, I’ll have seniors sign up for my ‘student only’ Canvas. Canvas has events reminders, scholarships, and commonly asked questions easily available to you.
• Appointments: Students can stop by my office before or after school and during lunch with questions. You can also come during class if your teacher sends you on a pass.
• PARENTS: The best way for parents to get information is to attend our events, read the weekly email, and check out the newsletter. I also keep the webpage and the CCC Instagram up to date, and you should be able to get answers to most of your questions there

Reed CCC Weekly update 08/25/2025

Welcome to my first weekly email from the CCC. I am excited to be working with the class of 2026 seniors and their families!

Seniors may come and visit with me before and after school, during lunch, during their off-campus periods, or with a pass from their teachers.

If you have any questions please contact me. My first event this year will be the College and Scholarship kick-off. See the attached flier for more information.

  Upcoming Events:

• August 27th: Reed Back to School Night: 5-7pm
• August 28th TMCC at lunch in the Library: Come meet with our rep Juan
• September 1st: Labor Day- no school
• September 3rd: College and Scholarship Kickoff- 6PM presentation in the Reed theatre

Reminders: 

• Seniors need to accept the invitation to the College and Career Canvas to have access to current information on events, scholarships and more. Families are able to access the webpage and the plethora of info there.
• Senior Portraits: Prestige Photos- if you are having trouble signing up please email Misty at mnewlinali@lifetouch.com
• ACT/SAT: If you are interested in re-taking the ACT or SAT to improve your scores for scholarship consideration. Please be aware that the ACT is only being offered in Carson City this year. There are currently no locations in Reno/Sparks that are hosting. 
  • Sign up ASAP to reserve your spot. Spots will fill up quickly

Scholarships: I am including all scholarships with links to the student CANVAS site. Students only will have access.

• The Gates Scholarship-Full Ride!!! 
• Hagan Scholarship
• Check the CCC webpage and Student CANVAS for up-to-date information about scholarships.
• Make sure you are checking requirements for each individual scholarship to know if it needs a letter of recommendation or a resume etc.
• Most local scholarships will come due in the Spring, in the meantime you can utilize scholarship search engines such as Fastweb or Going Merry to find national scholarships to apply to.
• With all scholarships- it is your responsibility to know due dates, requirements and make sure they are legitimate.

Financial Aid: 

For help with the FASFA, contact the help line directly or speak with the UNR or TMCC financial aid departments. 

FAFSA Opens OCTOBER 1st. Fill out ASAP!

• You can make your account or “FSA ID” now at 

1.     https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch

2.     This needs to be done at least 3 days before you attempt to fill out the FAFSA. 

• You will want to fill out the 2026-2027 form for current seniors. You fill the form based on the year the student will be going to school, NOT the current year.
• Everyone should complete the FAFSA even if you think you may not qualify based on income!!! You can qualify for scholarships based on the FAFSA as well as grants and loans. All the information included on the FAFSA is from your taxes, filling it out allows the gov’t to link you to your student
